Countdown to Opening Day – 63 days

While not necessarily a number one would expect to see on the diamond, 63 has had some good years on the shores of Cleveland. Six different men have worn it during a Major League game while representing the Indians, including left-handed reliever Josh Smith a season ago. Read More

Top Tribe Position Player Performances in the All-Star Game

July 9, 2019 |

Cleveland is playing host to the 90th Midsummer Classic, with the annual exhibition kicking off at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, July 9.

The game may not mean as much as it used to with the advent of daily interleague play around the country, and it no longer has bearing on home field advantage for the World Series, but it still remains a great opportunity to watch some of the greats of the game take the field in competitive action.

The Indians will be represented this year by starting first baseman Carlos Santana, reserve infielder Francisco Lindor, and pitchers Shane Bieber and Brad Hand. Read More

Countdown to Opening Day – 41 days

The number 41 has not gotten a lot of use in Indians history, but last season marked the first time the number had gone unused since 2003. Martinez’s Brief Farewell Tour Fittingly Stopped First in Cleveland

September 17, 2018 |

Prior to Saturday’s game, longtime Cleveland slugger Victor Martinez announced his plan to retire at season’s end, bringing a close to a professional career that began in 1996 with the Indians organization and that has lasted 16 years at the Major League level.

Martinez’s announcement ended a month of speculation in the Motor City after the 39-year-old, relegated solely to designated hitting duties over the last two years and for the majority of the last four, had previously indicated in August that he was ‘pretty sure’ that this season would be his last. He erased those doubts prior to Saturday’s game, when the Indians honored one of the better switch-hitters in franchise history in a brief ceremony. Read More

Remembering Snow-pening Day

April 11, 2017 | | One Comment

A little over ten years ago now, the Cleveland Indians had one of the more unusual starts to a home slate of games in the history of baseball.

The date was Friday, April 6, 2007, and the Indians were set to open Jacobs Field for play for the first time that season with a 4:05 PM start against the Seattle Mariners. Hopes were high in Cleveland that the Tribe would rebound from a disappointing 78-84 record in 2006, just one season after going 93-69 and falling games short of the playoffs courtesy of a late September collapse.
