Cards Stop Skid as Wainwright Trips Up Tribe; STL 8, CLE 2

June 9, 2021 |

Adam Wainwright survived a rough top of the first, but the Cardinal bats put up eight unanswered runs as St. Louis knocked off the Cleveland Indians by an 8-2 count.

Backed with an early two-run edge, rookie right-hander J.C. Mejia’s second big league start did not go as planned as he was unable to get out of the bottom of the first. The Tribe bats were then put to bed early, mustering just one more base runner over the final eight innings as the Cardinals ended a six-game losing skid and bounced back from a 10-1 defeat the night before. Twins Throttle Tribe with Barrage of Homers; MIN 10, CLE 2

April 28, 2021 |

The Minnesota Twins avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Indians, taking Tribe pitching deep six different times, rolling to an easy 10-2 win on Wednesday afternoon.

Logan Allen’s struggles in the rotation for Cleveland continued as he was tagged for three first inning home runs and did not last the second inning in a taxing day for the Indians bullpen. The poor performance, which included six runs earned on five hits in just an inning and a third, earned Allen a demotion following the contest, with the Indians off until their series in Chicago on Friday. The Yankees came back quickly from a three-run deficit after one, blasting four home runs on the way to a 5-3 victory over the Indians from downtown Cleveland on Friday night.

Just one night after coughing up a three-run first inning lead, the Indians (8-10) did it again on Friday night, taking a 3-0 lead after one before the Yankees (8-11) responded with two homers in the second to tie the game and two more solo homers in the third and fifth and never looked back. The Cleveland bats were put back on ice by the New York bullpen, after doing some early damage against opposing starter Jordan Montgomery. Read More

Rodon Loses Perfect Game in Ninth, But Completes No-Hitter; CWS 8, CLE 0

April 14, 2021 |

Carlos Rodon etched his name in the Major League Baseball record book, losing a perfect game with one out in the ninth on a hit by pitch before nailing down the final two outs to secure a dominating 8-0 win for the Chicago White Sox over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.

Rodon, scratched from his start on Monday with stomach issues but staring down a place in the historical archives, took the mound in the ninth with 95 pitches thrown to the minimum 24 batters that he had faced through eight. Josh Naylor found himself quickly in an 0-2 hole and grounded to first, losing a bang-bang foot race to the bag to reigning American League MVP Jose Abreu. Two outs away, Rodon got ahead of Roberto Perez with high heat, but went low and in with a back foot slider and caught the toe of Perez’s right cleat, sending the backstop to first base with Cleveland’s first base runner of the night and ending Rodon’s bid to pitch the fourth perfect game in ChiSox history. He went back to the slider to punch out Yu Chang on a questionable pitch in for the second out and got Jordan Luplow to ground his game-high 19th pitch of the inning to third base, where Yoan Moncada fired to Abreu to kickstart a celebration at the mound.
