Bauer Throws Seven Scoreless, Only Stopped by Rain; Indians 6, White Sox 2

June 18, 2018 |

There was only one thing that could stop Trevor Bauer on Monday night, and it turned out to be one of the few things that he could not control in a 6-2 Indians win over the Chicago White Sox from downtown Cleveland.

Backed by a big second inning and steady adding on from a scuffling Tribe offense, Bauer provided the Indians with plenty of wiggle room by slowing down the struggling White Sox on a scorching hot and humid night at Progressive Field. Weather would be a factor as the ball jumped early before the winds shifted ahead of rains that would delay the game for 35 minutes in the bottom of the seventh inning, spelling an earlier end to the evening than Bauer might have hoped for. Sox Make Second Trip to Cleveland as Tribe Hosts Three-Game Set

June 18, 2018 |

After not seeing each other for the first time this year until the very final days of May, the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox will meet up for the third time in the last seven series when the two clubs kick off a three-game series from Progressive Field on Monday night.

The Indians (37-33) will presumably be excited to face a different divisional foe this week, as they have had no answers for the Minnesota Twins this season, especially over their last two series against one another. The Tribe dropped two of three to the Twinkies over the weekend, avoiding the sweep with a strong 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon, as rookie right-hander Shane Bieber earned his first win with a tightrope act on the mound and his battery mate Yan Gomes drove in three with a bases loaded double in the third. The Indians come into the weekday series with a two and a half game lead over the Detroit Tigers for second place in the AL Central. Read More

Tribe Suffers a Night of Missed Opportunities; White Sox 3, Indians 2

June 13, 2018 |

Trevor Bauer struck out 12. The Indians put up 14 hits. And yet despite some big stats on each side of the ledger for Cleveland, they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.

Baseball is a funny game sometimes and Wednesday’s contest lacked a sense of humor as the Indians squandered opportunity after opportunity throughout the day against Chicago starter Dylan Covey. The Indians would wrap up the game in the only way that seemed fitting, stranding two runners in scoring position in the eighth and grounding into a game-ending double play with two on in the ninth. Tribe Returns to Windy City for Four with White Sox

June 11, 2018 |

The Cleveland Indians make their second trip to Chicago this season, but just their first to the south side of town as they face the host White Sox.

The Indians (34-29) took two of three in their series over the weekend with the Detroit Tigers, with the first two games decided on late inning home runs before the Tribe bats came alive big in support of Corey Kluber to take the rubber match. The Indians and White Sox met for the first time at the end of May and Cleveland took all three home contests, outscoring the visiting club, 25-10. The Tribe has won two of its last three series in June, but are just 4-4 for the month so far. Read More

Three-Run Kipnis Shot in Ninth Gives Tribe Win in Pitchers’ Duel; Indians 4, Tigers 1

June 8, 2018 |

A three-run home run from Jason Kipnis with two outs in the top of the ninth gave the Cleveland Indians a 4-1 win over the Detroit Tigers in their first of three games this weekend at Comerica Park.

Neither Trevor Bauer nor Michael Fulmer deserved to take a loss in a well-pitched game between the two right-handers, and neither would take a defeat on their own stat sheets in a pair of deep starts. Fulmer’s Tigers, however, would go home the losers on Friday, as closer Shane Greene could not keep the Cleveland offense in check in the ninth, as he allowed two big base runners before Kipnis put the game away with a monstrous clout to one of the deepest parts of the expansive yard in Motown. Tribe Returns to Tiger Town Hoping for Better Results

June 8, 2018 |

The last time the Cleveland Indians showed up in Detroit, things did not go so well against the Tigers. This time, they will hope to ride a wave of better play during the week as they kick off a three-game series from Comerica Park on Friday night.

The Indians (32-28) made up for a rough prior weekend against the Minnesota Twins with a pair of wins over the National League’s best, the Milwaukee Brewers, in a short homestand during the week sandwiched between off days on Monday and Thursday. The Indians had gotten June off to a bad start, losing the final three games of their series on the road with the Twins, but found a way to make six total runs stand up against the Brewers in a pair of well-pitched games from the Tribe pitching staff as a whole. Cleveland is 5-2 on the year against the Tigers, but just 1-2 in Detroit after a tough 6-3 loss and six answered runs in the middle game of a three-gamer during the mid-May set. Read More

Two Big Innings Lead Twins to Another Win Over Tribe; Twins 7, Indians 1

June 2, 2018 |

Lance Lynn lasted six innings and got two big innings of support from his offense as the Minnesota Twins knocked off the Cleveland Indians for the second straight day, winning behind a 7-1 final.

Lynn’s difficulties lasting late into games has been an issue this season, but he was able to overcome some big early pitch counts to earn his fourth win of the season, ousting Trevor Bauer. The Tribe starter got little support from his offense, which squandered a big bases loaded scoring opportunity in the third only to see the Twins tack on three runs in the bottom of the frame. Tribe Sets Target on Twins in Trip to Twin Cities

May 31, 2018 | | 2 Comments

The Indians make their first trip to the Twin Cities this season as the Minnesota Twins host Cleveland in a four-game weekend set.

The Indians (29-25) are riding a season-high tying five-game winning streak coming into the series with the Twins after sweeping the Chicago White Sox during the week and taking the final two games of last weekend’s series with the world champion Houston Astros. The Tribe will finish up the May slate of games in the series opener, closing out a month during which they led all of baseball in runs scored. After 27 games, they have scored 170 in the month, 28 more than the next closest club (Boston – 142). They hold a four-game lead over second place Detroit and a five and a half game lead over Minnesota. Read More

Allen’s Walk-off Homer in 14th Gives Tribe Wild Win; Indians 10, Astros 9

May 27, 2018 |

In a game that featured a little bit of everything, Greg Allen delivered the unlikely walk-off home run on the first pitch of the bottom of the 14th inning as the Cleveland Indians rallied back to defeat the Houston Astros, 10-9, on Sunday.

In a matchup hyped all week for its pairing of former UCLA Bruins teammates Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer, it would be a tale of two different games from Progressive Field on Sunday afternoon. Both starters pitched well enough to win and lasted deep into the day, but it would be disastrous outcomes from their teammates in relief that turned a well-pitched game in a 14-inning affair. Astros and Tribe Rematch for Second Straight Weekend

May 24, 2018 |

The wacky baseball schedulers are at it again this weekend, as one week after playing their first games against one another for the season, the Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros will reunite Thursday through Sunday for the final four games of their regular season matchups.

The Indians (24-23) return home after another tough rough trip. With a pair of wins at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs, the team went 4-4 in the eight-game trip after starting off with a pair of 1-2 defeats against the Detroit Tigers and the Astros. Starting pitching has continued to carry the Tribe as far as it can go, but the offense has proven to be inconsistent and the bullpen has still allowed runs to sneak across the plate in the latter innings of contests. They come into the series with Houston with just a 9-11 mark in the month of May while holding a two-game lead in the AL Central. Read More

Tribe Tallies Ten Runs in Wrigley Field Rout; Indians 10, Cubs 1

May 22, 2018 |

Cleveland’s Trevor Bauer extended his scoreless innings streak to 14 straight and the Indians offense provided plenty of support via ten runs, ten walks, and eleven hits in a 10-1 rout over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night from Wrigley Field.

After scoring just seven runs in three games over the weekend against the Houston Astros in a tough playoff preview, the Indians’ (23-23) offense woke up on Tuesday in the series opener with the Cubs, far more resembling the lineup that had averaged more than six runs scored per contest in the month of May. A big win in the team’s first appearance at the baseball landmark since Game 5 of the 2016 World Series guaranteed at least a series split, with one more to be played on Wednesday in the short set from Chicago. Tribe Returns to Wrigley Field for Two-Game Set with Cubs

May 22, 2018 |

The Cleveland Indians will return to Wrigley Field for the first time since Game 5 of the 2016 World Series this week as the Tribe takes on the Chicago Cubs in a brief two-game set to conclude a three-city, eight-game road trip. Be prepared for plenty of mentions during the series of the Indians’ 3-2 loss at “The Friendly Confines”, when the Tribe left the tying run in scoring position in two of the final three innings of the fateful contest.

The Indians (22-23) are coming off of a pair of road series losses to the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros, starting off their road trip on a tough 2-4 note. They were 12-8 at the time of their previous visit with the Cubs at the end of April, showing that things have not necessarily gone very well for the Tribe in that span. For a team with playoff aspirations and nearly everyone’s pick to win the AL Central, the Indians have won just one of their last six series and have looked like a team in need of some major moves before the deadline. Despite a losing record for the year and a 9-14 mark on the road, the Indians are still a game up on the Minnesota Twins in the division at the start of the day. Read More
