Rains Postpone Tribe and Reds in Finale

Rains Postpone Tribe and Reds in Finale

| On 09, May 2021

The season finale between the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians was rained out early in the day on Sunday.

The pitching matchup between Reds righty Tyler Mahle and Indians rookie Sam Hentges was called off by inclement weather plaguing the Great Lakes region. Heavy rains were expected throughout the day.

The game has been rescheduled on a mutual off day on August 9.

The Reds (15-16) hold a 3-2 edge in the six-game series between the in-state rivals. The Reds took the first two of three from Great American Ball Park in April, winning 10-3 and 3-2 decisions before dropping the series finale by a 6-3 count. The Reds blanked the Indians on Friday night when Wade Miley threw the Majors’ fourth official no-hitter of the season (fifth if Madison Bumgarner’s seven-inning gem in a doubleheader gets added into the count). The Tribe bounced back big on Saturday evening, breaking out in a 9-2 final.

The Indians (18-14) and Reds are both off on Monday. Cleveland will resume play on Tuesday night, when the club starts a quick two-game set with the Chicago Cubs to close out a quick five-game interleague homestand. Shane Bieber is expected to start the series opener in a 6:10 PM ET first pitch.
