Hosting a doubleheader at Cleveland Stadium, the Indians pulled off the daily double win over the Boston Red Sox as Bob Feller and Herb Score allowed a combined five hits in 18 innings on the mound to push Cleveland to 11-6 on the season.

Feller threw the final one-hitter of his career as just four runners reached base in a 2-0 win. After seven straight fly outs to start the game, he plunked Jimmy Piersall in the third. Grady Hatton walked in the fourth and Faye Throneberry reached on error for the Red Sox with their best scoring opportunity. Sammy White got the only hit of the game with a single to center with one out in the seventh. The Indians got all of their runs of support from catcher Jim Hegan, who drove Larry Doby in on a second inning groundout and Ralph Kiner home with a seventh inning triple.

In just his fourth Major League start, Score struck out 16 batters to complete the sweep with a complete game 2-1 victory in game two. The rookie lefty struck out at least one batter in eight of his nine innings and retired the first nine outs via strikeout. Doby drove in two with a first inning two-out double. Ted Lepcio responded with an RBI-double in the second.

The wins moved the Indians back into first place in the American League.
