Corner infielder and designated hitter Kevin Seitzer is born in Springfield, Illinois.

In the tail end of his eleventh season in the Majors, Seitzer finally got an opportunity to reach the postseason when he was dealt in August of 1996 by the Milwaukee Brewers to the Cleveland Indians. He had spent his first six seasons in Kansas City, where he was an All-Star and Rookie of the Year runner-up in his second season in 1987. He signed with the Brewers for the 1992 season and returned to the club the next season after spending the first half of the 1993 campaign with the Oakland Athletics. He remained in Milwaukee for parts of the next three years, making his second career All-Star team in 1995, before he was dealt on the final day of August in 1996 to Cleveland.

He injected offense into the Tribe’s lineup in 22 games after his acquisition, batting .386 with a homer, ten doubles, and 16 RBI, but the Indians lost to the Baltimore Orioles that season in the American League Division Series. The next year, he appeared in 64 games and hit .268 with two homers and 24 RBI, but made just eleven plate appearances over three playoff series for Cleveland that postseason as they lost in seven games to Florida in the World Series. He retired after the season.
