Casey Kotchman is born in St. Petersburg, Florida.
A first round pick of the Anaheim Angels in 2001, Kotchman bounced around the league after five seasons in California. He spent parts of seasons in Atlanta, Boston, Seattle, and Tampa Bay before joining the Cleveland Indians via free agency prior to the 2012 season.
With the Tribe that year, he hit .229 with 12 home runs and 55 runs batted in in 142 games. Defensively, he earned a .995 fielding percentage, committing just six errors in 1,213 chances.
After leaving Cleveland, he spent six games with the Miami Marlins in 2013 to end his Major League career. He returned to professional ball in 2015, playing 90 games for the Kansas City Royals’ Triple-A Omaha affiliate. He spent the 2016 season with the Triple-A Buffalo affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, playing in 102 games in what appears to be the final season of his professional career.
