Former Indians relief pitcher Bryan Shaw is born in Livermore, California.

The Indians’ single season leader in games pitched with 80 in 2014 was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2008 amateur draft out of California State University Long Beach. He spent parts of the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the D’Backs before being traded to Cleveland with pitchers Matt Albers and Trevor Bauer as part of the three-team trade that sent Shin-Soo Choo to the Cincinnati Reds on December 11, 2012.

Shaw, who became a free agent following the completion of the 2017 season and signed with the Colorado Rockies, made at least 70 appearances in each of his five seasons with the Indians. He led the American League with his 75 in 2016 and led all of baseball with his franchise record in 2014. He was once again the most frequently used pitcher in all of baseball in 2017, when he led the Majors with 79 appearances while logging a career-high 76 2/3 innings pitched and posting a 4-6 record with a career-worst (to that point) 3.52 ERA.
