On a chilly afternoon in Cleveland, the Indians and Blue Jays play a Major League Opening Day record 16 innings before Toronto claims the victory, 7-4.

The Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning, led by a three-run home run from third baseman Jack Hannahan. A three-run ninth inning by the Jays off of Tribe closer Chris Perez spoiled a two-hit, eight-inning effort by starting pitcher Justin Masterson. In to protect the three-run lead, Perez allowed a pair of singles to start the inning before a sacrifice fly. A walk and a two-run double by Edwin Encarnacion tied up the contest.

With the sun setting behind Quicken Loans Arena, Toronto catcher J.P. Arencibia hit a three-run home run off of Cleveland reliever Jairo Asencio with nobody out to begin the 16th. The Tribe managed a one-out walk in the bottom of the frame, but that base runner advanced no further than second base.
