Asdrubal Cabrera is once again rewarded for his breakout season at the plate as he is named the winner of the Silver Slugger Award in the American League at shortstop. It is the first and only time in his career he has received the honor.

The formerly light hitting middle infielder broke out at the plate in 2011, his fifth season in the Majors. After hitting just 18 homers in his first 387 career games from 2007 to 2010, he hit 25 while driving in 92 runs over 151 games for the 80-82 Cleveland Indians. He also made his first All-Star team that season in July; he would make his second consecutive AL squad the following year.

He went into the break in 2011 with a .293 average, 14 homers, 22 doubles, 12 stolen bases, and 51 RBI through his first 88 games. He cooled some in the second half, hitting just .244 in his final 63 games. He set career highs in games played, plate appearances, at bats, runs scored, hits, homers, RBI, total bases, and OPS+. He also matched his stolen base high of two seasons prior.
