Less than three years after signing with the club, 21-year-old right-hander Jaret Wright makes his Major League debut in front of a packed Jacobs Field crowd and earns a 10-5 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Wright, son of former Major League pitcher Clyde Wright, pitched five and two-thirds innings and had some problems on the mound, but he got that first MLB win under his belt in his first try. He allowed five runs on seven hits, walked three, and struck out four. Three balls left the yard, as Ron Coomer, Marty Cordova, and Scott Stahoviak all took him deep. The first two shots were back-to-back.

The Indians supported Wright with ten runs on 13 hits and started their scoring in the second, when Matt Williams hit a leadoff homer to tie the game and Kevin Seitzer knocked in Julio Franco with a single. Jim Thome led off the third inning with a home run and later in the frame, Brian Giles cleared the deck with a grand slam. After the Twins cut the lead to 6-5 in the sixth, the Indians responded with a four-run inning as Thome knocked in a run with a single off of former Indians pitcher Greg Swindell, Sandy Alomar scored two with a double to left, and Williams grounded another run across the plate.
