Longtime Indians pitching staff member Charles Nagy is born in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

A star in the making after a solid effort in the 1988 Baseball World Cup, he was drafted by Cleveland in the first round of that season’s draft with the 17th pick overall. He debuted on June 29, 1990, against the California Angels and became a staple of the rotation, not missing a start from October 3, 1993 (the final game at Cleveland Stadium), through May 16, 2000. He made the All-Star team in 1992, 1996, and 1999, and was the starting pitcher of the game in 1996.

Nagy was a member of the Indians roster from 1990 to 2002, winning 129 games. He posted winning records in 1992 and in a six-year span from 1994 to 1999.

After becoming a free agent following the 2002 season, he signed with the San Diego Padres, pitching a half season with the club. After his playing career, he has worked as a minor league pitching coach and has held the same position with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels. He worked as a Special Assistant to Player Development for the Indians in 2015 and returned to the Angels as their pitching coach in November of 2015.
