Cleveland and Seattle swap shortstops, with a few other pieces thrown in, as the Indians acquire Omar Vizquel from the Mariners for Felix Fermin, Reggie Jefferson, and cash.

Vizquel became a fan favorite in Cleveland, most notably for his impressive displays with the glove (and sometimes without!) in the field. After winning his first Gold Glove during the 1993 season with the Mariners, he would win eight straight with the Indians while making three All-Star teams. Following his eleven-year tenure in Cleveland, he played in San Francisco, Texas, Chicago (AL), and Toronto before heading off into a coaching career.

Fermin spent five years with the Indians after two seasons at short for the Pittsburgh Pirates. “El Gato” would play a pair of seasons with the Mariners before moving on to the Chicago Cubs for one final big league season in 1996.

Jefferson had hit a career-best ten home runs and 34 RBI in his first full season with the Indians in 1993. He was dealt to Cleveland from Cincinnati during the 1991 season. Like Fermin, his stay in Seattle was short, leaving town after just one season via free agency. He would sign in Boston, where he would play five seasons beginning with the 1995 campaign.

It would be the first transaction involving three players or more between the two clubs in just over ten years, when the Indians acquired another infielder, Tony Bernazard, for Jack Perconte and Gorman Thomas.
