In one of the more unfortunate losses of the season, the Indians lose to the San Francisco Giants, 1-0, as the lone run of the game is balked in by Cleveland reliever Tony Sipp with the bases loaded in the seventh inning.

The inning started with Justin Masterson on the mound for the Indians. Nate Schierholtz got the fourth hit of the game off of the Indians ace, but was thrown out trying to stretch his double into a triple. Miguel Tejada reached on a throwing error, but a weak popup to short by Chris Stewart put two outs on the board. A botched forceout attempt on a ground ball from opposing pitcher Matt Cain, the second error of the inning, kept the inning alive and ended Masterson’s afternoon. Sipp came on in relief and walked Andres Torres on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases and on the setup for his second pitch to Emmanuel Burriss, balked home Tejada with the go-ahead run.

Cleveland would load the bases in the next half inning with two outs, but a Grady Sizemore groundout to first ended the inning in unassisted fashion. Cain went seven scoreless innings, striking out six and allowing four hits for his seventh win of the season. Brian Wilson closed out the ninth for his 23rd save. Masterson took the loss to drop him to 5-6, despite being charged with one unearned run on four hits in six and two-thirds.
