Indians first baseman Ben Broussard has himself a career day at the plate as he hits a pair of home runs and drives in eight in a 15-3 route at home versus the Boston Red Sox.
The left-handed hitter wasted no time in running up his personal tally, hitting a grand slam in the first inning off of Boston’s Josh Beckett after the Red Sox starter gave up back-to-back walks with two outs to Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez. He led off the third with a solo shot, his fourth of the season. After striking out in the fourth, he scored a pair in the sixth inning on a two-out single to center to score Grady Sizemore and Hafner. He added his fourth hit of the game and more clutch two-out hitting in the seventh when he drove in Todd Hollandsworth on a ground ball single to right off of reliever Manny Delcarmen.
Broussard’s previous career-high was five RBI, which he had done once in 2003, twice in 2004, and once in 2005, all for the Indians.
