Robert Cleveland “Bob” Muncrief, who will spend one year pitching in Cleveland as a member of the Indians, is born in Madill, Oklahoma.

Muncrief had already logged nine seasons in the Major Leagues with the St. Louis Browns when he was traded with outfielder Wally Judnich to the Indians in November of 1947 for outfielders Joe Frazier and Dick Kokos, pitcher Bryan Stephens, and cash.

His timing was perfect, as it netted him a return to the World Series (he pitched in two games in the 1944 championship for the Browns). Muncrief appeared in 21 games for the Indians in 1948, posting a 5-4 record with a 3.98 ERA. He pitched two innings in one game of the World Series, allowing just one hit total against the seven batters that he faced.

He was purchased by the Pittsburgh Pirates following the season and later pitched for the Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees to conclude a 12-year career.
