Charlie Jamieson, a longtime left fielder for the Cleveland Indians, passes away at 76.

“Cuckoo” began his career with the Washington Senators before being selected off of waivers by the Philadelphia Athletics. He was traded to the Indians in 1919 and spent the next 14 years with the club, hitting .316 for his career. He was a perennial .300 hitter, batting .316 in his Cleveland career with just three full seasons under the .300 mark (he hit .296 in 1925, .299 in 1926, and .291 in 1929). In 1924, he was second in the American League in hitting with a .359 average in 143 games and stole a career-best 21 bases while finishing third in the Most Valuable Player voting. That season, he drew 47 walks and struck out just 15 times while adding 17 sacrifices.

He appeared in his lone postseason in 1920 and hit .333 when the Indians won the World Series. He led the American League in singles in 1923 and 1924 and total hits in 1923.

He was added to the Cleveland Indians’ Hall of Fame posthumously in 2016.
