Cleveland starter Johnny Allen wins his 12th straight decision to open the season, improving to a perfect 12-0 behind a 4-1 victory in Boston over the Red Sox.
Allen fell behind in the first as Dom Dallessandro doubled and went to third on an error by right fielder Bruce Campbell. He scored easily as the next batter, Doc Cramer, singled him home.
Cleveland would tie it in the fifth on a leadoff homer from Moose Solters. In the seventh, Solters set up the go-ahead run with his two-out triple. A walk to Campbell followed and Odell Hale hit a three-run homer off of Bobo Newsom to give the Indians a 4-1 lead.
It would be plenty for the Indians hurler Allen, who would go the distance again. He allowed just one run on four hits, walked one, and struck out five.
Allen has now thrown six complete games in his last seven outings. He has a total of eight no-decisions on the season. His winning ways will continue through to his final start and the Indians’ last game of the season, a tough 1-0 loss in Detroit to the Tigers.
