Clippers Advance to Finals, Tonight’s Game is FREE

Holy, Ciriaco! Columbus Clippers infielder Audy Ciriaco hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 5-5 tie and lift the Clippers to a 6-5 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Tuesday in game one of the International League Governors’ Cup Finals.

Trailing 5-1 in the seventh, Columbus plated four runs┬áto tie it before Ciriaco’s game deciding bomb. Ciriaco also singled in the seventh to finish the night 2-4. Erik Gonzalez, who is batting .423 (11-for-26) in the postseason, went 1-4 with a RBI single while Zach Walters (1-4) hit a two-run single in the seventh.

Starter Ryan Merritt pitched 6.1 innings (6.1IP, 9H, 4R/ER, 2BB, 4SO, 102 pitches/65 strikes) before Joe Colon came on in relief. Colon pitched two scoreless innings (2.0IP, 0H, 0R 4SO) to pick up the win.

How did they get here?
The Clippers advanced to the Governors’ Cup Finals by beating Norfolk 5-0 on Monday in game five of the best-of-five series. The red-hot Ciriaco smacked a two-run home run and starter Michael Clevinger threw 7.2 innings of no-hit ball in his Triple-A debut (promoted from Akron 9/9), striking out 10 and walking two (7.2IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 10SO, 102 pitches/65 strikes). Shaun Marcum closed out the game, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings of relief (1.1IP, 2H, 2SO).

Going for 10
The Clippers are two victories away from their 10th Governors’ Cup Title. They last won it in 2011 (1979, 1980, 1981, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1996, 2010, 2011).
