1995 – WOW! Manny Ramirez’s majestic blast off of A’s star closer Dennis Eckersley deep into the bleachers in left field sends the Indians home with a come-from-behind walk-off victory and a sweep over Oakland, 5-4.

The 23-year-old slugger, in just his third season in the Majors after being selected with the 13th overall pick in the 1991 draft, delivered the parting shot in the 12th inning off of the 40-year-old Eckersley, a former member of the Indians. Oakland had just broken a three-all tie in the top of the 12th when Stan Javier knocked in Rickey Henderson with a sacrifice fly off of reliever Alan Embree.

Carlos Baerga led off the bottom of the frame against “Eck” and singled through the left side and was replaced by Kenny Lofton, who stole second with two outs to move the tying run into scoring position. With a 2-2 count, Ramirez clouted the game-winner deep into the afternoon sky, prompting a “wow” from Eckersley as he walked back to the Athletics dugout in defeat.

Ramirez enjoyed A’s pitching in the series, getting hits in all three games while batting .417 with just one strikeout in 14 trips to the plate. He homered in all three games and drove in eight runs while the Indians claimed the three-game sweep.
