Eight Strong From Bauer and Murphy Double Send Tribe to Win; Indians 4, Astros 2

Trevor Bauer pitched eight strong innings, striking out nine, and David Murphy delivered a two-run double in the eighth in Cleveland’s 4-2 win over Houston on Wednesday.

The Indians have won seven of their last 10 games, against three would-be playoff teams. (The Rays led the AL East when the Indians swept them last week.)

Bauer allowed a two-run homer in the first inning to Evan Gattis but nothing more, and Cody Allen shut the door in the ninth. Allen has recorded 17 consecutive scoreless outings (17.2 IP), during which he’s struck out 31 batters.

Jason Kipnis led off the game with a triple and scored on a Francisco Lindor groundout, while Michael Brantley singled leading off the fourth and scored on Murphy’s RBI double. In the eighth, Lindor doubled with one out, Brantley walked and Murphy came through again.
