Tribe Drops Opener Despite Gomes Bombs; Mariners 3, Indians 2

The Indians dropped the opener of a three-game series against the Mariners on Tuesday, 3-2, despite two Yan Gomes homers.

The Mariners scored on RBI doubles by Robinson Cano in the first and Logan Morrison in the second, but Yan Gomes hit his first homer in the second.

Seattle then scored a run in the eighth before Zach McAllister worked out of a jam to keep it 3-1. Gomes homered again in the ninth – nearly to the same spot – but the Indians could not tie it.

Corey Kluber pitched seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out four. He’s 3-7 despite a 3.53 ERA overall and a 2.11 ERA in his last six starts (63 strikeouts in that span).
