Cleveland announced Sunday that catcher Yan Gomes and pitcher T.J. House will join the Columbus Clippers to continue their rehab assignments on Monday. House is scheduled to start for the Clippers on Wednesday against Buffalo.
Gomes and House started their rehab assignments with Class-A Lake County, where both looked sharp. In two games with Lake County, Gomes went 2-4 at the plate and scored a run. House struck out five over three scoreless innings in a start against the Dayton Dragons on May 15. Gomes caught all three of House’s innings on the hill.
The Tribe duo will join a red-hot Clippers team that has won 11 of its last 13 games and sits atop the International League West Division with a 22-15 record. The Indianapolis Indians, Pittsburgh’s Triple-A affiliate, trail the Clippers by a half game.
Lindor Extends Hitting Streak
Cleveland’s top prospect Francisco Lindor extended his hitting streak to 10-games on Sunday, going 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored in a 4-1 win over Pawtucket. Lindor is hitting .378 (17-for-45) with 4 doubles, 2 triples and 8 RBI over the 10-game span.
Willis Shines As Red Sox Pitching Coach
Former Columbus pitching coach Carl Willis is off to a great start in his new position as pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox. Since his hire on May 9, the team’s ERA has dropped from 5.04 to 4.64. Willis, who held the same position with Cleveland (2003-2009) and Seattle (2010-2013), joined the Clippers this Spring before leaving for Boston.
Roth Shines on Mound
The 25-year-old lefty Michael Roth continues to impress at the Triple-A level. On Sunday, Roth pitched into the eighth inning for his third straight start, allowing just one run in 7.2 innings of work (7.2IP, 5H, 1R/ER, 1BB, 7SO, 113 pitches/72 strikes). It was his third consecutive win in as many starts, as he is 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA (3ER/23.2IP) dating back to May 6.
7-Game Homestand Starts Monday with Dime-A-Dog Night
The Clippers open a seven-game homestand Monday versus Buffalo at 6:35pm ET. Not only will Tribe players Gomes and House be in town, but it’s also Sugardale Dime-A-Dog Night. That’s right – 10 cent hot dogs all night long. Check out the Clippers schedule for the week here.
