The Indians make a pair of trades to try to bolster their roster after falling just short of the playoffs in 2005, making transactions with the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cleveland sends catcher Josh Bard, outfielder Coco Crisp, and reliever David Riske to Boston for catcher Kelly Shoppach, reliever Guillermo Mota, third base prospect Andy Marte, and minor league pitcher Randy Newsom, who would be sent in July as the player to be named later.

In the other trade of the day, the Indians moved reliever Arthur Rhodes to the Phillies for outfielder Jason Michaels.
