An imposing figure on the field, Richie Sexson is born in Portland, Oregon.

The 6’8” Sexson was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 24th round of the 1993 draft and debuted in September of 1997. The outfielder and first baseman spent parts of four seasons in Clevleand, hitting as many as 31 homers and 116 RBI in 1999. He was traded at the midway point in 2000 to the Milwaukee Brewers and would become a two-time All-Star for the Brew Crew while twice hitting 45 home runs. He would also play with Arizona, Seattle, and the New York Yankees.

One year later, a future teammate will be born in Anaheim, California – pitcher Jaret Wright.
