In his first season at the helm of the Cleveland Indians, Terry Francona is recognized by Major League Baseball as its American League Manager of the Year.

Francona is honored for the first time in his career with the award, despite winning two World Series with the Boston Red Sox. Tito took a rebuilt Tribe team to a 92-70 record and into the AL Wild Card game with a ten-game winning streak to end the season. He becomes the second Indians manager (Eric Wedge – 2007) to be selected since the MLB began acknowledging the best league managers in 1983.
