Cabrera Named To Sporting News AL All-Star Team, Nominated For More Awards

| On 27, Oct 2011

Asdrubal Cabrera was named to The Sporting News postseason American League All-Star Team on Thursday afternoon. He becomes the first Indians shortstop named to the team since Lou Boudreau in 1948. Cabrera was named to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in July. Despite losing the fan vote to Derek Jeter, Cabrera was the eventual starter once Jeter was unable to play due to injury.

Cabrera had a breakout season this year, hitting .273 with 25 home runs, 92 runs batted in and 17 stolen bases for the Indians. This is Cabrera’s first time being named to The Sporting News team. He is also nominated for the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association’s, “Heart and Hustle Award.” Fans can vote through November 1.

Hopefully this will not be Cabrera’s last award this postseason. The slick fielding shortstop is in line to receive his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards this season.
