Quick Hits Notebook: Tribe Helps Their Mate
By Matt Van Wormer
According to Yahoo’s Big League Stew writer, David Brown, it turns out that this Indians team is more of a “team” than any of us thought. As many of you probably know, Jack Hannahan’s, Jenny, wife gave birth to a little boy while the Indians were in Boston. What you may not know is that Jenny went into labor three months early. So, while Hannahan was playing in a game, his agent was scrambling to get Hannahan a flight back to Cleveland.
It didn’t look like he would make it in time to see his son actually being born unless he wanted to spend $35,000 on a private flight. He was resigned to the fact that he would just arrive the next morning. Justin Masterson didn’t like that plan so he got all the Indians players in the locker room to pitch in to get Hannahan home just in time to see his son’s birth. Hannahan actually got to the hospital 15 minutes before John Joseph Hannahan V was born. At just 2 pounds, 11 ounces, he was placed in the NICU and is doing fine.
The Indians got their top draft pick, Francisco Lindor signed just in time to beat the Major League deadline. Lindor’s contract reportedly included a $2.9 million signing bonus. According to the Indians website, the Tribe was able to come to terms with 29 of their 50 draft picks.
Also according to the Indians official website, Grady Sizemore is back on the diamond participating in baseball activities. While they won’t rush him back to the field, the Indians are hoping for a mid-September return for Sizemore.
