Indians Bring Up McAllister To Make First Start

By Ryan Hohman

The Cleveland Indians have recalled RHP Zach McAllister from the AAA Columbus Clippers and he will make his major league debut tonight in a start vs. the Toronto Blue Jays wearing #57. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, the Tribe has optioned infielder Cord Phelps to AAA Columbus. Phelps hit .196 in 19 games after being called up from the minors on June 8. The 23-year-old, 6’6″ tall McAllister was acquired in the 2010 trade deadline deal that sent OF Austin Kearns to the New York Yankees. He has spent the entire 2011 season with the Clippers, where he is 8-3 with a 2.97 ERA in 15 starts. He was New York’s 2009 Minor League Pitcher of the Year after leading the Eastern League at AA Trenton with a 2.23 ERA in 22 starts.
