Indians Bench Blown Out by Nats; Nationals 10, Indians 7

September 28, 2019 |

A nine-run second inning was more than plenty for the Washington Nationals on Saturday as they secured home field advantage in Tuesday’s National League Wild Card Game with a 10-7 blowout of the Cleveland Indians.

With meaningful games done for the Indians after being eliminated from 2019 playoff consideration on Friday night, a lineup filled primarily with bench bats put up a bit of a fight on Saturday, but only after Adam Plutko and the Cleveland bullpen were destroyed in a nine-run frame by the Nationals as they rolled to victory. The only blemish for Washington was a subpar performance from Patrick Corbin, their big offseason signing, who was tagged for six runs and was unable to finish five innings in his final regular season start of the year. Tribe Dominates Tigers Again in Another Win; Indians 7, Tigers 2

September 17, 2019 |

For the 15th straight time this season, the Cleveland Indians knocked off the Detroit Tigers, earning a 7-2 win in the series opener from Progressive Field on Tuesday night.

The Indians used a well balanced offensive attack as seven of nine players reached base safely at least twice on the night. The 12-hit showing backed a quality start from Adam Plutko, who won for the third time against Detroit this season. Read More

Plesac Fires First Career Shutout in Four-Hitter Over Halos; Indians 8, Angels 0

September 11, 2019 |

Zach Plesac quieted any concerns that he was running out of gas late in the season as he fired a complete game four-hit shutout in an 8-0 win against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

The Indians supplied Plesac with a half dozen runs of support over the first three innings, but the rookie right-hander needed just one of those runs to shut down the Angels in the middle game of three for the Indians in Anaheim. Making his 19th career start, Plesac went the distance to move the Indians to 85-61 on the year, five games in back of the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central. Read More

Five-Run Fifth Deals Bauer and Tribe Embarrassment; Royals 9, Indians 6

July 28, 2019 |

Every now and then, something happens over the course of a sporting event that takes away from the final results of the day. That will be the story for some time for Trevor Bauer and the Cleveland Indians, as the starter became the focus of attention after a fifth inning collapse led to an embarrassing on-field display from the 28-year-old veteran hurler.

The big inning paced the Kansas City Royals to a 9-6 come-from-behind victory from Kauffman Stadium on Sunday. Read More

Minor Bests Bieber as Tribe Offense Silenced; Rangers 4, Indians 2

June 20, 2019 |

Mike Minor’s strong start to the 2019 season continued on Thursday as he limited the Indians to just three hits over eight one-run innings to lead the Texas Rangers to a 4-2 win over Cleveland from Globe Life Park.

The Rangers (40-35), looking to avoid a series loss to the Indians (39-35), got a couple of early runs and got two more late on solo homers off of AJ Cole to split their four-game set against Cleveland. The win moved the club back in front of the Indians, who were unable to take advantage of a low scoring contest from Arlington. Despite taking the L, Cleveland still returns home with positive overall numbers from a 5-2 road trip through Detroit and Texas. Read More

Kipnis Clobbers Two as Tribe Rolls Rangers; Indians 10, Rangers 4

June 20, 2019 |

The Indians used a five-run first to set the stage on Wednesday night and Jason Kipnis hit a pair of home runs as Cleveland routed the host Texas Rangers in a 10-4 final.

The Tribe offense was alive and well as a hot June continued for the club, which now sits with the best record in the American League in the month at 11-5. The Indians (39-34) used five multi-hit games and 12 hits in total to put up a second straight double digit scoring effort to clinch at least a series split with the Rangers (39-35) while moving a half-game in front of them in the overall American League standings. Three-Run Fifth Powers Tribe Past Tigers; Indians 4, Tigers 2

June 15, 2019 | | One Comment

Shane Bieber lasted two outs into the eighth inning, while the Indians got to Nick Ramirez for three runs in the fifth inning to lead Cleveland to a 4-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night.

For four innings, the Indians could not strike through against left-hander Gregory Soto, fresh up from Triple-A Toledo to head up a bullpen game for the Tigers. Once he left the mound, the Indians put together a big inning and used another strong pitching performance from Bieber, who struck out a dozen, to hold on for victory. Read More

Indians Spoil Cleveland Leg of Sabathia’s Farewell Tour; Indians 8, Yankees 4

June 8, 2019 |

The Indians spoiled the final regular season start in Cleveland for longtime Tribe southpaw CC Sabathia and claimed another big series win over a playoff caliber opponent on Saturday afternoon with an 8-4 win over the New York Yankees.

Playing in his 19th and final Major League season, the Sabathia farewell tour made its stop in Cleveland with a big milestone on the line for the left-hander. Looking for his 250th career win in his last Progressive Field start (his home for eight big league seasons), Sabathia was good in the early going, but ran into trouble late and was bested by Adam Plutko, who was called up from Triple-A Columbus for a spot start for the Tribe. Rains Only Delay Tribe’s Late Rally; Indians 9, Twins 7

June 6, 2019 |

Rains could only delay an impressive come-from-behind victory by the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night as they used three homers in the final two innings to steal a 9-7 victory from the Minnesota Twins.

The news of the day was bad for the Tribe, as the day’s probable starter, Carlos Carrasco, was placed on the 10-day injured list as the pitcher will step away from baseball for a length of time yet to be determined to address a blood disorder. The Indians went with a bullpen game and fell behind early, but scraped their way back into the game before homering their way to victory after interference by Mother Nature. Read More

Tired Tribe Slumbers to Defeat in Windy City; White Sox 10, Indians 4

May 30, 2019 |

A late arrival to Chicago did the Cleveland Indians no favors as the club was shelled in a 10-4 final against the White Sox on Thursday night.

A lengthy finale with the Red Sox in Boston on Wednesday night and the ensuing flight to Chicago may have led to a sluggish effort from the Indians on Thursday night in the opener of their four-game series with the White Sox. Carlos Carrasco’s strong numbers against Chicago this month disappeared, as he allowed six runs over six and one-third innings, and the offense could not make up the difference in their third look of the season at left-hander Manny Banuelos. Five-Run Rally in Ninth Gets Tribe Back to Even; Indians 7, Red Sox 5

May 29, 2019 |

The Indians saved their best for last on Tuesday night, as Cleveland rallied for two runs in the eighth and five more in an improbable ninth to stun the Boston Red Sox in a 7-5 victory.

On a night with persistent rains and an early delay after steady precipitation in the first inning and a half, the Indians and Red Sox went five scoreless frames before Boston took what appeared to be a commanding 3-0 lead over Cleveland. The Indians cut the deficit to one and missed out on a huge opportunity for more in the eighth, only to see the bullpen give the runs right back. But in a fashion uncharacteristic of their performance this season, the Indians found some Fenway magic of their own in their final at bats, hitting a pair of clutch home runs before claiming the game for good.
