It wasn’t a third inning at bat by Shin-Soo Choo that would have Progressive Field quaking and shaking today, but he would get the fans rocking in the bottom of the ninth as his three-run walk-off home run gave the Indians a 7-5 come-from-behind win over the Seattle Mariners in game one of a doubleheader.

Choo was several pitches into his at bat in the third against Mariners starter Blake Beavan when the northeast Ohio area was affected by a rare earthquake that was noticeable to fans in attendance, those watching the shaky cameras on SportsTime Ohio, and to Tom Hamilton and Mike Hegan in the broadcast booth. It didn’t shake Choo at the plate, as he doubled to the gap in right-center in a 1-1 game.

The back and forth game had finally tilted in the Indians favor in the seventh when Carlos Santana drove in Luis Valbuena with a single to right. But in a 4-3 game in the top of the ninth, a double from Trayvon Robinson off of closer Chris Perez scored a pair to give the Mariners a 5-4 lead.

Ezequiel Carrera led off the bottom of the ninth against Mariners closer Brandon League and doubled to left. A fielder’s choice error allowed Asdrubal Cabrera to reach safely. Choo, the third straight former Mariner in Manny Acta’s lineup, took League deep to left-center to capture the first game.

The Indians would lose the second game, 12-7. Three years later, the Indians will win again in walk-off fashion, as Jose Ramirez will defeat the Houston Astros, 3-2, on a single to left to score Tyler Holt with the winning run.
