ICYMI at DTTWLN – February 29 to March 6

| On 07, Mar 2016

We continue to inch closer to the regular season as actual baseball games have started occurring across Cactus League and Grapefruit League play. The Indians have not fared well, but spring training standings and results are far less important than making it through the next month unscathed in the injury department. The club is taking a look at its multitude of options in the bullpen and outfield while slowly working in its veterans.

The biggest news of the week may have been the official confirmation from the Indians that Corey Kluber will start the season opener against David Price and the Boston Red Sox on April 4th, now just four weeks away. If you have endured the offseason this long, you can survive this final stretch until the Tribe takes the mound once again in Cleveland at Progressive Field.

Here’s what you may have missed this past week from Did The Tribe Win Last Night.

1948 Cleveland Indians weekly rewind

It’s crunch time for the third place Cleveland Indians, who are running out of games in the 1948 season. With the pressure on, the bats and arms stepped it up, putting together a nice little winning streak while seeing reinforcements arrive from the farm system.

The pitching staff, team, and city as a whole were dealt a significant blow on September 13, when the day’s starting pitcher, Don Black, was injured during an at bat and fell into a state of unconsciousness on his way from the stadium to the hospital. With their thoughts elsewhere, their winning streak comes to an end, but they salvage a good seven-day stretch with a win to start a crucial series against the Washington Senators.
