The Cleveland Indians ink a pair of veterans at the back end of their careers, signing first baseman/designated hitter Eddie Murray and starting pitcher Dennis Martinez to multi-year contracts.

The 17-year veteran Murray will return to the American League after a two year stay in the Big Apple with the New York Mets. He had spent his first 12 Major League seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, where he was the AL Rookie of the Year in 1977 and made seven All-Star teams, before spending three seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 39-year-old Martinez had revived his once-promising career during his eight-year stay in Montreal, where he was a three-time All-Star and threw a perfect game. His first eleven MLB seasons came in Baltimore, including ten as a teammate of Murray’s.

The two would reunite in Cleveland as key veteran signings to join a young, but intriguing lineup primed for the Indians’ first season at the brand new Jacobs Field in 1994.
