1959 – The Indians improve to 4-0 on the season in exciting fashion, as third baseman Woodie Held delivers a two-out walkoff home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to give Cleveland a 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers.
The Indians scored a run in the bottom of the fourth as catcher Russ Nixon knocked in Minnie Minoso on a double play grounder that went around the horn. The Tigers tied the game off of Cleveland’s Cal McLish in the top of the seventh as Eddie Yost scored on a Larry Doby triple.
Held, who had homered twice in the game the day before while driving in six of the Indians’ eight runs, hit the solo blast to left for the win off of former Indians All-Star pitcher Ray Narleski, who was in his third inning of relief.
