The Cleveland Indians acquire outfielder Bake McBride from the Philadelphia Phillies for pitcher Sid Monge.

McBride, a center and right fielder by trade, was a former Rookie of the Year with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1974 and an All-Star with the club in 1976. He joined the Phillies during the 1978 season and hit .309 with a career high 87 RBI for the World Champion Phillies. He was limited to 58 games with the Phillies in 1981 prior to the trade and saw similar limited action in Cleveland, where he hit .365 but played in just 27 games in 1982 and hit .291 in 70 games in 1983 prior to becoming a free agent.

Monge came to the Tribe in 1977, when he was traded by the California Angels with Bruce Bochte and $250,000 for Dave LaRoche and Dave Schuler. He was almost exclusively a reliever, but posted a 12-10 record with a 2.40 ERA in his lone All-Star season in 1979. He was 7-1 for the Phillies in 1982 after the trade and was off to a 3-0 start but had a 6.94 ERA in 1983 when he was traded to the San Diego Padres. He would conclude his career with a season in Detroit with the Tigers.
