Designated hitter Eddie Murray walks the Indians off a winner in the bottom of the eleventh inning as Cleveland defeats the Atlanta Braves, 7-6, to win their first World Series game since 1948.
The Indians take a 2-1 lead in the first on an RBI-triple from Omar Vizquel and an RBI-groundout from Carlos Baerga off of Atlanta’s John Smoltz. They pad the lead in the third on back-to-back RBI hits from Baerga and Albert Belle, but surrender the lead in the eighth as the Braves score three times. Sandy Alomar’s RBI-double in the bottom of the inning ties the game at six before Murray’s deciding single scores Alvaro Espinoza, who pinch-ran for Baerga after his leadoff double.
Murray was 0-for-5 entering the at bat with three strikeouts on the night.
