The 1997 World Series is underway from Pro Player Stadium in Miami, Florida, where the National League champion Florida Marlins host the Cleveland Indians and defeat them by a 7-4 final.
Florida’s Livan Hernandez gets the better of veteran Orel Hershiser in front of more than 67,000 fans. Hernandez wins his third game of the postseason, while Hershiser is tagged for seven runs on six hits and four walks in four and one-third innings. The Indians get on the board first in the first on an RBI single from David Justice, but back-to-back home runs for the Marlins in the fourth open the game up. Manny Ramirez and Jim Thome add solo home runs and Brian Giles delivers an RBI double in the eighth, but the Indians run out of time to claw all the way back.
