The Cleveland Indians win their third straight game over the Seattle Mariners to punch their ticket to their first World Series since 1954. Dennis Martinez and two relievers combine on a four-hit shutout in a 4-0 win in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.
The Indians and Mariners are scoreless until the fifth inning, when Kenny Lofton delivers a run-scoring single to left off of Seattle ace Randy Johnson. Cleveland will tack on three more in the eighth, including a pair on a passed ball that allows Lofton to score all the way from second base. Carlos Baerga adds a solo shot one batter later to provide more than enough insurance for Jose Mesa in the ninth.
