Game 1 of the 1995 American League Championship Series takes place at the Kingdome in Seattle as the Mariners host the Cleveland Indians, hot off of an ALDS series sweep of the Boston Red Sox. Their winning ways run out as they drop a 3-2 decision to the M’s for their first playoff loss since 1954.
Dennis Martinez allows three runs over six and one-third innings for the loss. Seattle scores a pair in the second on a two-run home run by third baseman Mike Blowers. The Indians tie the game in the seventh on a solo home run from Albert Belle, but Luis Sojo gives the Mariners the lead back for good in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double.
