Cleveland’s Early Wynn earns his 22nd win of the season. Longtime Cleveland pitcher and the winning pitcher of Game 4 of the 1948 World Series, Steve Gromek, is tagged with the loss for Detroit.
The Tribe had previously clinched trips to the World Series in 1920 and 1948, winning the championship both times.
