Cleveland’s Herb Score breaks the rookie record for strikeouts, set by Grover Cleveland “Pete” Alexander’s 227 in 1911 with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Score would finish the season with 245 strikeouts, leading all of baseball. His record still stands in the American League, but has since been topped in the National League by the 276 strikeouts by Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets in 1984.
