Cleveland’s Ray “Slim” Caldwell throws a 3-0 no-hitter over his former team, the New York Yankees, on their home field in game one of a doubleheader at the Polo Grounds. It was Caldwell’s tenth win of the season and third since joining the Indians. First baseman and cleanup hitter Joe Harris drove in all three runs with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate, hitting a double, a home run, and a sacrifice fly.
The Indians right-hander had just made news two weeks earlier when he was struck by lightning on the mound in the ninth inning of his first start for the Indians after his release from the Boston Red Sox in a game at League Park. He completed that game and earned the win.
