In the secondary phase of the MLB draft the Cleveland Indians draft second baseman Duane Kuiper with the 21st overall pick. Kuiper had been drafted five times by other clubs before finally signing with Cleveland. He made his debut for Cleveland in 1974 and would play eight seasons with them until being traded to San Francisco after the 1981 season. Though known as a solid defender and high contact hitter, he is probably best remembered for his lack of power at the plate. Kuiper hit only one home run in his career (1977).
