Today in Tribe History: December 29, 1975
On this date in 1975 future Tribe hurler Jaret Wright is born in Anaheim, California. Wright was drafted 10th overall by Cleveland in the 1994 amateur draft and quickly became one of the Indians’ top prospects. He quickly rose up the ranks and became a hero for the 1997 team at the ripe age of 21. He started five games in the ’97 postseason, earning wins in two of those games. It was rumored that the Tribe turned down a trade offer for Wright that included Pedro Martinez. Unfortunately for Wright and the Indians, arm trouble quickly derailed his potential stardom and he was let go in 2002. He did have his best year in 2004 with Atlanta (15-8, 3.28) but could not regain his form and was out of baseball by 2008.
