Today in Tribe History: December 20, 1993

In what at the time seemed like a “no big deal” move, the Indians make one of the most lobsided deals in history. The Indians trade shortstop Felix Fermin and first baseman Reggie Jefferson to the Mariners in exchange for shortstop Omar Vizquel. Vizquel would become one of Cleveland’s most beloved players of all-time, spending eleven seasons with the Tribe and winning eight Gold Gloves in that span.

The only SS’s I ever saw who could play anywhere close to Omar would be Ozzie Smith, Dave Concepcion, Chico Cardenas, & maybe a few others.
Frank Duffy was a good SS who the Indians were fortunate to acquire.
    Omar was something else.
I started following the Indians in 1957.
If the Indians last another 55 years, they may never have a SS close to Omar.
This man belongs in the Hall of Fame as soon as he is eligible.
