The American League defeats the National League by a score of 3 – 1 in the 68th annual All-Star Game, played in Cleveland. Tribe catcher Sandy Alomar Jr. hits a 2-run home run in the 7th inning to claim the victory and is named the game’s Most Valuable Player. Alomar is the first player to win the award in his home ballpark and the first hometown player to homer since Hank Aaron in Atlanta in 1972.
