Game Preview #79: Los Angeles Angels (44-35) at Cleveland Indians (40-38)

By Christian Petrila

The Indians offense came alive in Baltimore, capped off by a 6-2 win in the series finale against the Orioles. The Indians were jump-started by surprising production from Shelley Duncan and Aaron Cunningham.

The Tribe comes home for a three game series with the Los Angeles Angels. Game one’s starter will be the recently revitalized Ubaldo Jimenez (7-6, 4.69). Last time he took the mound, he took the L against the New York Yankees when he allowed four runs on four hits in six innings. Although he walked four, he struck out seven Bronx Bombers. Since his debacle against the White Sox, however, his ERA has dropped from 5.79 to 4.69.

Taking the mound for the Angels will be their All Star ace Jered Weaver (8-1, 2.31). He’s coming off a performance against Baltimore when he allowed only one run on six hits over 6.2 innings. He also struck out six Orioles while walking just one. Since his no-hitter on May 2, he has gone 4-1 in seven starts.

The Indians were hoping to have designated hitter Travis Hafner back for Monday’s game, but it appears as though he isn’t ready to return to the team just yet. The Indians will continue to have him rehab in Columbus. The Indians were planning on giving him 3-5 rehab games, but considering he sat out games on Thursday and Friday, he may have some lingering issues. The last thing the Indians would want to do in that scenario is rush him back.

Carlos Santana returns to the lineup after missing the previous four games with a back issue.

Rookie Mark Trumbo was a late scratch for the Angels with a bruise on his pinky finger.

All the game action begins at 7:05 pm from Progressive Field. The game can be heard on the flagship radio station AM-1100 WTAM and the Indians Radio Network and can be seen on SportsTime Ohio.
