Former Cleveland Indians star Luke Easter is murdered in Euclid, Ohio, at the age of 63. Police reports indicated that Easter was approached by two robbers armed with shotguns outside a bank at East 260th Street and Euclid Avenue while transporting $5,000 from payroll checks. After refusing to turn over the funds, he was shot twice at close range. Easter starred for the Homestead Grays and several minor league teams before arriving in the major leagues at age 34. Easter had the record for the longest home run hit at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, a blast that traveled 477 feet.
