Today in Tribe History: January 26, 1935

Compiled by Jason Kaminski

On this date in (fictional) Cleveland Indians history, baseball broadcaster Bob Uecker is born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Though Uecker never had any true affiliation with the “real” Cleveland Indians, he is best remembered by Tribe fans as the radio play-by-play announcer Harry Doyle in the 1989 film Major League. Some of Harry Doyle’s most memorable quotes include: “In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven’t, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there and are threatening to climb out of the cellar”, “Just a reminder fans, comin’ up is our ‘Die-hard Night’ here at the stadium. Free admission to anyone who was actually alive the last time the Indians won a pennant.”, and “JUST a bit outside.”
