Today in Tribe History: January 17, 1970
Major league teams select a record 357 players in the January phase of the annual free agent draft. The Cleveland Indians have the top pick and select Chris Chambliss. Chambliss would win the Rookie of the Year Award in 1971 and spend three and a half seasons with the Tribe. He was traded to the New York Yankees in 1974 and his career would blossom with “the pinstripes”, winning two World Series titles.
